Introduction: Empowering rural women is essential to overcome barriers in their context. This study identifies the key variables and characteristics that influence their empowerment within agriculture. Methodology: The existing literature on the subject was reviewed using the content analysis technique. Results: The analysis revealed that personal development, education and training, health and well-being, economic autonomy, decision-making, leadership, support networks and legislation are key factors in measuring rural women's empowerment in agriculture. Discussions: The continued commitment of local authorities is essential to materialize policies, programs and initiatives that promote the empowerment of these women. Conclusions: Understanding the profile of rural women is vital to understand how they interact with available resources. This makes it possible to identify particular dynamics and design interventions for the development of specific capacities and skills for women's empowerment and entrepreneurship in agriculture. In this way, one can better respond to their specific needs and foster positive change at the individual, community and societal levels, contributing to sustainable and inclusive rural development.
